I recently had the opportunity to try out a new pack that was just coming on the market. I have to admit, when I first saw it, I was somewhat skeptical of how useful it would be.
It's slim design and detailed engineering makes this pack one of a kind. While there is room, for my wallet and truck keys in the main pocket, there is still room for an extra pair of gloves and a spare hat; because here in northern Alberta, the weather changes quickly....and I tend to overheat and need to shed a layer or two.
The back portion is divided into three main compartments. Each one, is closed with a water resistant zipper. The biggest compartment will also fit a 500 ml water bladder. At the top is a hole for the hose, and also has hose guide loops built into the shoulder strap. (They really did think of everything when they designed this pack!!!) The other two compartments I usually use for my wallet and truck keys.
The chest strap has a zipper pocket on either size of the "buckle" which features a mechanical lock that is magnetically held shut. The buckle is easily opened and closed event with gloves on and I have never had a problem with it coming open while running.
Each front pocket is large enough to hold my phone (in its case) on one side, and a power bar (or two) on the other side.
While running with this pack down a frozen creek, I had my action camera and truck key in the same pocket. After removing my camera, and running for about a kilometre down the creek, I realized I forgot to close the zipper!!! Fortunately, the loose design of the pocket, kept my key contained while I ran. THANKS FITLY!!!
Now that my training runs are getting longer, I usually use this pack for my runs that are less than 1.5 hours. With the 500 ml bladder, it works well for that distance. Even with the additional weight of the water, the pack fits snugly on my back and doesn't have any movement.
While trail running, I frequently run down some steep hills into the creek bottom. The pack stays in place and I forget it is even there.
It is very obvious there were many hours spent in the design of this pack. Every feature was thought out and no detail was missed. Im looking forward to my summer runs, when it is warmer and I don't have to wear so many layers. This pack is an necessary addition to my running gear.
Conclusion:
Looks and Ergonomics: 5/5 - The stylish colours and materials used don't limit you to just running with this pack. It would also be a handy addition when travelling and would fit easily under a jacket.
Price Point: 5/5 - At less than $100, you won't find another running pack of this quality for this price. See my note at the bottom.
Functionality: 4/5 - I can't wait until they build a bigger one, so I can wear my FITLY on longer runs and ultra marathons.
Quality of Craftsmanship: 5/5 - Attention was paid to every detail in the construction of the pack. The zippers and buckles are high quality, and even after many runs with the pack stuffed FULL, there is no sign of any seams coming undone.
I would HIGHLY recommend this pack to you. Whether you are an avid runner, a power walker, hiker, or just going for a stroll, this is the pack you need to keep your belongings safe, while you stay comfortable enjoying the scenery.
